Spartak’s press service announced the appointment Thomas Amaral to the position of sporting director of the club.
The Portuguese specialist previously worked as a scout for Benfica. He will start working at the Moscow club in January 2024. Paul Ashworth will take on the role of technical director.
Tomas Amaral commented on his appointment to Spartak:
I’m happy to be part of such a great club. I know that Spartak is a real national team in Russia.
I believe that success is achieved mainly not with individual work, but with collective work. And I evaluate players not only based on their CV, age or height: for me their current footballing qualities and potential are more important.
In addition to Portuguese, I speak Spanish and English. But I also know a few words of Russian and my Russian wife, I’m sure, will help me both to learn the language and to adapt to the new country!
