“The RFU understands what they are doing. We had no guarantees from the Asian Confederation” – Khomukha
Former head coach of the Russian youth team Dmitry Khomukha supported the decision of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to refuse to move to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and remain in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
At a meeting on Wednesday, the RFU Executive Committee almost unanimously decided to remain in UEFA.
— Probably, the leaders of the RFU understand what they are doing. Perhaps there are some agreements with UEFA that over time we will return to international games. We had no guarantees from the Asian Confederation. It is not a fact that Japan, Australia and South Korea will agree to play with us. No one will give such guarantees,” Euro-Futbol.Ru quotes Khomukha.
At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
