“Freedom of speech no longer exists.” UEFA President doubts about Europe
The head of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksander Čeferin, admitted that he doubts the existence of freedom of speech in European countries.
— As for society, I am not very optimistic about Europe. Populists are on top, extreme right-wing movements are growing, but this is also because freedom of speech no longer exists. In dictatorships you are put in prison, and in so-called democracies you are killed in the media. People are tired of it, but they cannot speak freely. And in my situation I can’t say anything. I will say one wrong word, and you will write about it for seven years.
Which still inspires optimism… I basically believe that people are good, that we will very soon return everything to the way it was,” The Guardian quotes Čeferin as saying.
Russian clubs and national teams are currently suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of UEFA due to the situation in Ukraine.
