Former Krasnodar football player Maxim Demenko believes that it is too early to compare goalkeeper Matvey Safonov with CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.

This season, 24-year-old Safonov played 18 matches in all tournaments and missed 12 goals.

— Now Safonov is considered the number one of the national team and they have already begun to compare him with Akinfeev. I think it’s too early to do this yet. Igor still had quite strong competitors in the national team, but he managed to become the main player for a long time in the national team and in CSKA.

I cannot compare the current goalkeepers in the national team with the players who were there during Akinfeev’s time. Now we don’t have as strong a goalkeeper line as we used to have.
