Nepomnyashchy: “I won’t say that I was 100% sure that Slutsky would succeed in China”
Russian coach Valery Nepomnyashchy noted that he was not sure that Leonid Slutsky, who heads Shanghai Shenhua, would succeed in China, since he was without a team for a long time.
On Sunday, Shanghai Shenhua, under the leadership of a Russian specialist, won the Chinese Super Cup, defeating Shanghai Port with a score of 1:0. Slutsky won the first trophy in China.
– Always a difficult start. Obviously, the training camp and games in the tournament were beneficial and we managed to select the optimal lineup. My congratulations to Slutsky! I can’t say that I was 100% sure that he would succeed in China after a creative break in his career. I understood that it was difficult. But I wouldn’t say that Chinese football is developing. There it is wavy: it goes up in terms of costs, then down or disappears altogether. But it seems that everything is working out for Slutsky. So, bon voyage! And he will return to us only to fight for new titles,” Metaratings.ru quotes Nepomniachtchi as saying.
Slutsky took charge of Shanghai Shenhua at the end of December last year.
