Freiburg coach Cristiano Streich announced that he will leave the team at the end of the season.

I’ve thought about it a lot and had many discussions, but I believe that after 29 years of work, now is the time to make room for new energy, new people and new opportunities. Even before, it was very important for me not to miss the moment when I consider it necessary to leave. During my time in Freiburg I had hundreds of extraordinary experiences. This club is my life and I am grateful for the great love and support I have received here. I look forward to the future of this club and I know that excellent decisions will be made, that everything will continue here as it has in recent years and decades, always moving forward and not giving up, even if it has been difficult at times.

Director General of Freiburg Jochen Sayer stated that this decision was made jointly, following long and confidential conversations. A successor will be found soon. All official statements will follow at the end of the season.

Streich spent his entire coaching career at this club. He coached Freiburg’s youth teams and was assistant to the grassroots coach. And since December 2011, the 58-year-old specialist has become the coach of the main team. Under the guidance of the German, Freiburg played 481 matches (41% victories).

After twenty-six rounds, the “Brazilians from Breisgau” occupy 9th place in the Bundesliga table.
