President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov explained why the Russian national team plays friendly matches with Serbia and Paraguay at the Dynamo stadium and not at Luzhniki.
On Thursday, the Russian team defeated the Serbian team in Moscow with a score of 4:0. The match with Paraguay will take place on March 25.
— Tell us about the choice of the stadium. Can we say that the Dynamo stadium is the main arena for the national team?
— First of all, it’s good that we played this match. This game was the first for our team against a national team from Europe in quite a long time. This is important for Russian football.
As for this arena, there were, of course, other options. But when we make decisions, there are several factors that we take into account: logistics, field conditions. Accordingly, it is still important to fill the stands.
We planned to hold one of the games in St. Petersburg. But since during the break for the national team’s matches the stadium in St. Petersburg was planned to be dedicated to restoring the field, we were not able to play there.
We could have collected Luzhniki, but this stadium did not have all the documents, not all the permits,” the Match TV website quotes Dyukov.
