Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara was disqualified for refusing to support LGBT* (LGBT* is recognized as an extremist movement in Russia and is prohibited) during the French Championship match with Nantes, according to the website of the French Professional Football League (LFP).

The meeting took place on May 19 at the Monaco stadium and ended with a score of 4:0 in favor of the home team. Kamara, who played 78 minutes and scored a goal, taped over the anti-homophobia message on his uniform and the tournament logo, which was painted in rainbow colors. In addition, before the start of the match, the Malian footballer refused to participate in a photo shoot in front of a banner in support of the fight against homophobia.

“Having listened to player Mohamed Camara and taken note of his refusal to take part in one or more events in support of the fight against homophobia, the commission decides to impose a four-match ban on him,” the LFP said in a statement.

Kamara is 24 years old; last season in the French Championship he played 20 matches, scored one goal and made two assists.
