Fakel sports director Kirill Kotov said that negotiations with Dutch midfielder Dylan Mertens passed quickly and without the participation of agents.
The Voronezh club on Thursday announced the transfer of the 28-year-old midfielder; the term of the agreement with the player was not specified.
“The negotiations went quickly, and we are pleased to welcome Mertens to our club. Agents did not play any role in the negotiations – our club reached an agreement personally with the player because he was a free agent.
I won’t say the terms of the contract yet, this is the club’s internal kitchen, but we are counting on the Dutchman in the “ten” and “box-to-box” positions. The player will arrive at Fakel’s location at the start of training camp,” Sport24 quotes Kotov.
Mertens’s last club was the Bulgarian Botev, where he played 74 matches, scored six goals and gave five assists. Last season he won the Bulgarian Cup. The midfielder moved to Fakel as a free agent.
At the end of the season, Fakel took 11th place in the standings with 32 points and retained its registration in the Russian Premier League.
