Former Lokomotiv footballer Sergei Gurenko responded to information about the possible transfer of midfielder Alexei Miranchuk from the Italian Atalanta to the American Atlanta.
Earlier, Italian media reported that the parties were close to finally agreeing on the transfer of the footballer to the MLS club for 11 million euros.
“I think there was interest in the Russian from some Serie A teams, but Atlant offered better conditions. I repeat, sometimes a footballer simply wants to change something in his life and accepts unusual challenges. This is his right, and it is difficult for us to judge from the outside. We are not even close,” RT quotes Gurenko as saying.
Last season, Miranchuk played 42 matches for Atalanta, scored four goals and made 10 assists.
The 28-year-old Russian won the Europa League with the club. His contract runs until the summer of 2025.
