Former Spartak and Russian national team player Alexander Mostovoy believes that the Red-Whites lack a striker who can play in the style of Alexander Sobolev.

Sobolev was suspended from training with Spartak’s first team in July after the first round of the MIR RPL. The media reported on the possible departure of the 27-year-old player from the Moscow club. On Tuesday, the Red-Whites lost to Dynamo Makhachkala with a score of 0:1 in the match of the 3rd round of the RPL Path FONBET Russian Cup.

– In the second half, when we pinned down our opponents, it was obvious that we were missing a tall striker. You know who I’m talking about, right?

– About Sobolev?

— They serve, but who’s there to fight? Last year, Spartak won many matches at the end, when Sobolev was standing: they threw the ball there — and that’s it. This is about beautiful football. What kind of beautiful? You hit it 50 meters forward, someone throws it in, strike, goal. Especially at the end, when 10 of the opponent’s players are standing defending.

— Are you waiting for Sobolev’s return to Spartak?

— I’m not waiting. I want to know where he is and what’s wrong with him. Will someone leave Spartak and say what the problem is? — RB Sport quotes Mostovoy as saying.

Sobolev has been playing for Spartak since January 2020. During this period, he scored 58 goals and made 32 assists in 139 matches.
