Promes to suddenly resume career? United fans against criminal in team

The best legionnaire in Spartak history is preparing to return to professional football.

A trip to Spartak’s training camp in Dubai last winter and breaking local laws cost Quincy Promes dearly, who was sentenced to a long prison term in his home country. The UAE is in no hurry to extradite the 32-year-old footballer, who, after an eight-month layoff, hopes to resume his career.

Promesa to be taken in by Russian businessman’s club

Quincy Anton Promes was already posing as a tough gangster before all his problems with the law. His childhood and youth spent in a less than prosperous area of Amsterdam made their mark. At first, there was nothing criminal about it: Quincy simply rapped on relevant topics, but soon he moved from words to action. In 2018, he was arrested for beating his wife, but there were no consequences. A stabbing with his cousin and participation in drug trafficking resulted in two criminal cases and real prison terms totaling seven and a half years.

With such a biography, Promes certainly shouldn’t have traveled internationally. At the beginning of 2023, he showed prudence by not going to Spartak’s training camp in Dubai, but this year he decided to take a risk. If he had behaved like a good boy in the UAE, he would probably have been allowed out of the country without any problems, but the desire to be an outlaw was stronger.

Quincy got into a car accident and fled the scene without telling anyone at the club. When the team was leaving the training camp, Promes was detained at the airport and soon found himself in a local prison. He had to spend two months behind bars, after which his lawyers managed to change the measure of restraint: he is still prohibited from leaving the UAE, but he can live in comfortable conditions.

Promes got bored without football. He can only dream of returning to Spartak now, so for now the player and his agent have found an option with a team from the UAE second division — United from Dubai. In this case, the level of the team is not as important for Promes as the opportunity to regularly train and play official matches. Another former Spartak player, Zelimkhan Bakayev, played for one of the best teams in the UAE, Al-Wahda, last season.

— When I played in the UAE, I was drawn home. I wanted to go back because I wasn’t finished yet [карьеру]I have something to prove. And I need to go there to finish with football, as I understand it, – Bakayev noted.

Promes is not going to retire from football, but until he is allowed to leave the country, he needs to stay in shape. His age allows him to count on another 2-3 years of a full-fledged career, unless, of course, the Dutch justice system never reaches Quincy.

United have not yet officially announced the transfer of one of the best players in the history of the RPL, but they have hinted at it in their social networks: “Big news coming soon! A major transfer to United is coming.” According to some reports, the UAE club belongs to 51-year-old Russian businessman Sergei Lomakin, for whom football is a special passion.

Not everyone is happy about Promes

Usually, messages on the official United account do not cause any excitement and are limited to 5-10 comments. The news of Promes’ imminent arrival excited fans, who left more than 300 comments under it, many of which were extremely negative.

— It turns out that the club supports criminal activity, violence and drug trafficking. For me, this is very strange, — this comment collected the most likes.

– You are taking a criminal into your team!

— It seems that for a Muslim country, drug trafficking and knife attacks are haram. Or am I getting something mixed up?

– He tried to kill his brother and was involved in drug trafficking. And you invite such a person to join your team? Well done, guys!

“I couldn’t imagine that the club would be so crazy as to invite a person who is on the international wanted list.

Not all users criticized the club’s decision. Dozens of commentators supported Promes’ arrival with lights, and Russian-speaking users wrote that they were waiting for the footballer to appear in Spartak. It is too early to talk about a return to the Red-Whites. The contract with the Moscow club expired at the end of last season:

— Quincy Promes completely missed the second part of the season that has just ended due to personal reasons that prevented him from returning to Russia after the winter training camp in the UAE. Unfortunately, these circumstances are still in force, and it is not possible to talk about Quincy resuming his performance at the club at this stage. At the same time, our club hopes that the parties will be able to return to this issue in the future, — said a message from Spartak in early July.

In the meantime, Promes will be getting into shape in the UAE second league and hoping that his lawyers will still be able to obtain permission to leave the country safely.
