Former Russian national team player Diniyar Bilyaletdinov spoke about his most vivid memory from the 2008 European Championship.

At the tournament, which took place in Austria and Switzerland, the Russian team won bronze medals.

— Do you often remember Euro 2008?

– Not so often anymore. Only bright moments. Let’s say we climbed mountains when we had the opportunity.

— What else do you remember vividly?

— The brightest thing is leaving the group.

– Suddenly. That is, not a victory over the Netherlands?

– This was already a secondary story. At that time we were already heroes because we left the group. There was emotion when we made it through the group, and the Netherlands is another step.

The most explosive emotion was after the match with Sweden. Moreover, this was after the diarrhea that poured down on us after the first game with Spain. We were buried. When we beat the Swedes, I thought: “Well, we’re out of the group!” There were emotions that we had made some kind of breakthrough. The Dutch moved due to the emotions they experienced with Sweden, Bilyaletdinov told the Championship.
