The scandalous Ballon d’Or. Rodri received the award instead of Vinicius

Representatives of Real Madrid did not come to Paris at all.

Even before the awards ceremony began, it received the status of the most scandalous in recent years, if not in history. Of course, one can recall the controversial era of cooperation between France Football and FIFAwhen a lot of Ballon d’Ors were, according to many, distributed unfairly. You can remember individual stories about how Wesley Sneijder was “pushed” past the award, how they did not hand out a deserved and obvious award to Robert Lewandowski, refusing to hold the ceremony at all due to Covid. In short, there were many contradictory episodes. But the current story may surpass them all.

Impetuous castling

In recent weeks there have been persistent rumors that Vinicius would win the Ballon d’Or. It seemed so obvious that even Real Madrid representatives didn’t hesitate to comment on it. And the Brazilian himself allegedly ordered a card for his loved ones and representatives of the club, simultaneously booking a place for a party in the center of Paris.

But a few hours before leaving Madrid for the French capital, the charter was cancelled. And this gave rise to new rumors. As if at the last moment in France Football and of UEFA They changed something and decided to give the Ballon d’Or to Rodri. As a result, none of the representatives of Real Madrid went to the ceremony at the Chatelet theater. And it seemed strange. Now all that remains is to build conspiracy theories.

Why, for example, would Real suddenly take offence? of UEFA and French football? After all, everyone knows the scheme for determining the winner of the Ballon d’Or. This is the vote of sports journalists. The function of France Football is to count the votes and of UEFA – organize the ceremony. Did Real Madrid suddenly decide that these two organizations had somehow interfered in the counting to not give the prize to Vinicius?

Just because everyone said in advance that the Brazilian should receive this award? But these are mostly rumors that spread on their own. In football, where everything is saturated with information flows, this is a common occurrence. Someone started a rumor, another took it up, then a third, a fourth, and this rumor is already perceived by everyone as a decided fact. This could happen with the Vinicius assignment conversations. Furthermore, this year the organization was such that only a few knew down to the last person who would win the prize. Not even the traditional interviews and photo sessions with the winner were scheduled, as happened in previous years.

Therefore, the leak occurred only at the last moment, a few hours before the awards ceremony. But this, due to a combination of previous rumors and a reality that did not correspond to them, was perceived as a revision of the decision, even though nothing of the sort could have happened. The organizers decided to play with intrigue; the information leak occurred already in the technical preparation phase of the ceremony, when it was necessary to provide information on the winner to a larger number of employees involved.

Let’s go back to conspiracy theories. Its supporters often accuse official structures of following the agenda. They quickly condemned, for example, the awarding of the Socrates Prize to Jenny Hermoso for her contribution to football affairs. This is the same Hermoso, because of whose kiss a scandal broke out in the Spanish Football Federation. She is now described as an advocate for women’s rights in sport. “Another show,” the critics said of UEFA and France Football. But then there would be nothing more logical than awarding the Ballon d’Or to Vinicius, who is worse than the Toure brothers in pursuing the equality agenda and fighting racism.

Furthermore, of UEFA and France Football condemned itself to the furious wrath of all fighters for black rights by not awarding the prize to the Brazilian. It turns out that in one case they worked for the agenda, and in another – more critical – against it. Maybe that’s the problem again of UEFA and did France Football not interfere in the voting decision, as required by the regulations? This obvious contradiction does not occur to conspiracy theorists.

As for the football content of the current Ballon d’Or, obviously, there is still a lot of analysis and reasoning about various degrees of solidity to be addressed. But I would like to underline that this award is a kind of homage to those awards that should have gone to Andres Iniesta and Sneijder, but simply went to the most spectacular ones. Not to the hard workers who produce results, often remaining in the shadows for the common man, but to those who drown in the spotlight thanks to their feints, goals and shots. Rhodri is a hard worker. And it gets results. The merit of hard workers is appreciated.

By the way, as an author I dare to express my personal opinion directly for almost the first time. I would vote for Dani Carvajal, who last season combined his contribution to the result, his brilliance, his character and that same talent of a hard worker. But Dani came fourth in this voting. And it seems like it would be an ideal compromise on the newly opened battlefield.

As for Real’s initiative, only the Madrid team itself suffered reputational losses. After the symbolic defeat in El Clasico. Now they have also lost against those voices they first believed and then saw the disappointment in reality because of them. This is somewhat frivolous for a big club. After all, “Real” was often played at this ceremony, there was a lot of it. We must perceive these moments as adults, without succumbing to childhood resentments. On the other hand, we can also understand the people of Madrid who are sharpening their teeth of UEFA (although the latter is at odds with many top clubs, so this cannot be called the reason for some kind of prejudice). Real Madrid backed their clearly distraught leader, Vinicius. The relationship with France Football is episodic, but with the Brazilian they still have to achieve results and win trophies, working daily.

Under the sign of Barcelona

Well, let’s now move on to the other awards presented at the Chatelet theater in Paris. The evening began under the auspices of Barcelona. Which is even more symbolic in the absence of Real Madrid representatives. He was immediately named the winner of the Raymond Kop Award – this is an award for the best young footballer. As expected, it was Lamin Yamal, who, at his age, broke a lot of records starting from “the youngest”. From the youngest goal scorer for the Spanish national team and in the history of La Liga to the youngest participant in the final stage of the European Championship, scorer there and winner. Well, he became the youngest winner of the Raymond Cop Prize, at 17 years and 107 days. A record in a category that in itself implies youth.

For the sake of history, it is worth noting that second place was taken by Arda Guler of Real Madrid, third Kobby Mainu of Manchester United, fourth Savio of Manchester City and fifth Pau Kubarsi of Barcelona.

Then, no less predictably, the best women’s football team was named. Last season, Barcelona took all the prizes it could, which is why they recognized it as the best team, preferring Lyon. PSGChelsea and Gotham. But it seemed that the most popular and eye-catching award for the best men’s club had gone almost unnoticed. The fact is that Real has been recognized as such. They showed a short video, smiled and continued the ceremony: none of Madrid’s residents were in the room. Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City were also among the contenders.

The main women’s award, the Ballon d’Or, was also collected by a representative of Barcelona. For the second consecutive year the award went to Aitana Bonmati. The La Masia graduate, at 26, won the league and Copa del Rey, the Super Cup and the Champions League last season, scored 26 goals and made 21 assists in 57 games; For the fourth consecutive year, the women’s Ballon d’Or goes to a Barcelona team. Before Bonmati’s double, Alexia Putellas received the award twice.

Goalscorers and goalkeepers

It is for this reason that the Gerd Müller Trophy for his goalscoring exploits went to the lone Harry Kane. Although he shared this award with Kylian Mbappe. Last season they scored 52 goals. But the Frenchman was in solidarity with his Real Madrid teammates and did not come: Kane received his rare trophy alone.

There was no clear favorite in the goalkeeping category, but last season produced no shining figure who could be an undeniable dominator. Then the award for the second year in a row went to Emiliano Martinez, who helped Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League and played strongly for the Argentine national team. Among the competing candidates, Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns stood out. This appears to be the first contender from Africa. In addition to them, Diogo Costa del Porto and Gianluigi Donnarumma del PSGGregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund, Andrey Lunin of Real Madrid, Yann Sommer of Inter, Unai Simon of Athletic, Mick Maignan of Milan and Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia. It is clear that the latter three were most likely nominated for their performances in the national team.

Rewards for trainers without heroes

The Johan Cruyff trophy is assumed to be one of the main ones at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. But here too the current situation turned out to be strange. In women’s football, the award was awarded to Emma Hayes, who coached Chelsea, with whom she won the English championship, and now leads the national team. USAwho won the Olympic Games. The Englishman was unable to attend the awards ceremony. But I recorded a video message.

The best coach of the men’s team was Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who beat Josep Guardiola of Manchester City, Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen, Luis de la Fuente of the Spanish national team, Lionel Scaloni of the Argentine national team and Gian Piero Gasperini of Atalanta . Ancelotti also didn’t come to the ceremony for obvious reasons. The organizers limited themselves to a short video on the screen. This episode turned out to be confusing, like everything related to Real Madrid in the context of the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Barinov does not consider himself a traitor after moving from Lokomotiv to CSKA

Football player Dmitry Barinov he does not consider himself a traitor after moving from Lokomotiv Moscow to the capital CSKA. He wrote about it on social networks.

On Tuesday CSKA announced the transfer of Barinov from Lokomotiv, the term of the contract expires until the end of the 2028/29 season.

“I feel bad when I read your negative comments, but I often made emotional statements and you accepted me for who I am. Because absolutely each of us has the right to our own opinions and emotions, but I have nothing but a feeling of gratitude towards our fans for all these years: for the “Steel Rail” (award for the best player of the season according to Lokomotiv fans – approx.), for the general moments of happiness and moments of temporary failures. We have been together for half of my life and I am proud of our history: I want to ask you not to rewrite it, I am not a traitor,” Barinov wrote.

“Yes, I have decided to leave my home, but I am sure of one thing: Lokomotiv and the fans will always be in my heart”, added the footballer.

Barinov is 29 years old. He graduated from Lokomotiv, for whose main team he played 274 matches in various tournaments, scoring 13 goals and 27 assists. The paths diverged: who betrayed whom in the history of Lokomotiv and Barinov

Football club CSKA On Tuesday announced the transfer of midfielder Dmitry Barinov from Lokomotiv Moscow. For the Army team this is the second important agreement in the current transfer window after the purchase of the Argentine striker Luciano Gonda; the club is already stocking up on forces to fight for the championship in the season of the Russian Premier League (RPL). For Lokomotiv fans, Barinov’s pass is decidedly painful.

Transfer history

For many, such a move may come as a surprise, because Barinov is moving from one top club to another. Furthermore, in the summer of 2024, Barinov told the Sport24 portal that he will not leave Lokomotiv for another Russian club. This was noted in the context of a possible move to Dynamo Moscow. “I heard about it, there were conversations. But now I can honestly tell you that I will not move to any Russian club. If I leave Lokomotiv somewhere, it will be only in Europe. These words may seem strong to some, but they are true,” Barinov said.

But things didn’t go according to plan. The 29-year-old midfielder’s contract with Lokomotiv was set to expire at the end of the season. In September, he told reporters that the club had not yet started negotiations to extend the deal, despite his leadership, captaincy and legend: he played for Lokomotiv for almost 15 years. Barinov never felt sorry for himself in the Lokomotiv uniform, worked with all the specialists and waited for the opportunity to go to Europe. I was losing to the club, but it seems that Lokomotiv decided to play with it a bit.

This signal did not go away without a trace. Lokomotiv, led by general director Vladimir Leonchenko, has started negotiations with Barinov to extend his contract. Leonchenko himself told Sport Express that the club is interested in continuing cooperation with Barinov. But the negotiations did not produce any results, and the topic of Barinov’s contract became the most discussed in the context of Lokomotiv. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Railway Workers, Yuri Nagornykh, noted that the negotiations are going well.

In December Sport-Express reported that Barinov rejected the final offer to extend his contract. The general director of Lokomotiv has changed, Boris Rotenberg Jr. replaced Leonchenko. However, he also failed to solve this problem.

On January 12, Lokomotiv returned from vacation, Barinov, along with everyone else, underwent a medical examination before flying to the training camp. Then he said that the situation with the transition to CSKA indefinite. On Monday afternoon, sporting director Dmitry Ulyanov said that Boris Rotenberg, already at the beginning of his work at Lokomotiv, offered the player a new contract for four years, but the player rejected this option. He also noted that in the winter Lokomotiv received an offer from CSKA according to Barinov, which the club rejected.

Everything was decided after a few hours. In the evening Lokomotiv announced that it had received a new offer from CSKAwhich has been improved. Therefore, Barinov was excluded from the composition for the retreat. Subsequently director of communications CSKA Kirill Breido reported on his Telegram channel that the club has agreed with Lokomotiv on the transfer of Barinov. Thus ends Barinov’s long history with Lokomotiv. Although in 2025 Barinov was among the contenders for the “For Fidelity” award in the category “RPL“, but the captain and the goalkeeper won CSKA Igor Akinfeev.

Why is it necessary? CSKA?

At 29 years old, Barinov has extensive winning experience. Together with Lokomotiv he won the Russian Cup three times, the national championship once and the national Super Cup once. As is known, winning RPL It also helps to have players who have already won the championship. This is it CSKA acquired another similar player in addition to national champions Igor Akinfeev and Danil Krugovoy.

Barinov has long established himself in Russian football as a defender with a strong character. In addition to good offensive and defensive qualities, CSKA acquires another “boy” capable of strengthening the character of the team at a given moment. The army team now has one of the youngest teams RPLBarinov’s character and serious approach will help in this regard.

Moreover, the Barinov transition gives CSKA variability. In the first part of the season, the army team could not rotate the squad much without losing quality, but with the advent of Barinov, not only a reserve will be added, but also moments of maneuver. This applies to both circuits and simple replacements.

Now CSKA there will be one of the strongest central midfielders: Barinov, Ivan Oblyakov, Matvey Kislyak. All three can play both defense and attack, each of them is a high-quality footballer. They are joined by Brazilian midfielder Matthäus Alves, who plays more in attack. It turns out that Army coach Fabio Celestini will have a lot of variability in terms of using players on the field.

What do the experts say?

On the one hand, the acquisition of Barinov is a big plus for variability. On the other hand, in a positive sense, the problem for Celestini is how to include everyone on the pitch. Experts suggested how it will affect Barinov’s transition CSKA.

Former army footballer Vladimir Ponomarev is convinced of this CSKA The character will be added with the appearance of Barinov. “I think so CSKA will play according to the “4-3-3” scheme, everyone will adapt: Barinov, Matvey Kislyak and Ivan Oblyakov. Barinov is in the support zone, Kislyak is higher, he will go on the attack,” he said. – So it will be a good trio. As the English say: “Show your midfielders, I’ll tell you which team.” Of course, Barinov’s arrival will also add character CSKA. The composition as a whole is not age-appropriate.”

“This is a good transfer, of course, it’s a shame that Barinov already had a complex cruciate ligament injury,” Ponomarev said. “We need a player like this in the middle of the pitch, more or less aggressive, good in defence, holds the ball well, sees the pitch. A good signing for CSKA. But it seems to me that it won’t last long,” he added.

Former head coach CSKA and the Russian national team, Valery Gazzaev believes that the army team now has a very strong selection of players in the center of the field. “Good competition has a positive effect on the success of the team. Ivan Oblyakov, Matvey Kislyak and Barinov – this trio will be one of the best in the center of midfield in Russian football. All players play for the Russian national team and have good qualities,” he said. – Each of them can play both attack and defense. Therefore, a great buy for CSKA. In modern football, centrally positioned players who simultaneously perform defensive and offensive actions are highly valued.”

Former coach of the Russian national team and Lokomotiv Yuri Semin agrees with him. “Now CSKA one of the strongest center lines on the field. The coach has a selection of high-quality players. I think there will be no problems welcoming the main midfielders Oblyakov and Kislyak,” he said.

“I think so CSKA I wanted to see Barinov more at home. The clubs agreed and the transition took place. He was an important player for Lokomotiv, but in football there were often transfers to the competition. Time will tell how this transition will affect teams,” Semin added.

Barinov could play against Lokomotiv in February

CSKA is in fourth place in the rankings RPLscoring 36 points. Lokomotiv is third with 37 points. The teams will play a friendly match on February 21st in the third final training camp before the season resumes.

Koloskov believes that it will be difficult for Lokomotiv to replace Barinov

Midfielder Dmitry Barinov he is a top-class footballer, so Lokomotiv Moscow will have difficulty finding a replacement for him. This opinion was expressed by the honorary president of the Russian Football Federation (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov.

Previously, Barinov moved from Lokomotiv to Moscow CSKA.

“It’s a strange transition. It seemed to me that Barinov and Lokomotiv were one. Everything was fine, Barinov did a lot, so it’s difficult to say what prompted him to change,” Koloskov said.

“Of course, this is a loss for Lokomotiv, because it is very difficult to replace a player of this level. CSKA this is a good buy. Some have lost, others have gained,” added the agency’s interlocutor.

Barinov is 29 years old. He graduated from Lokomotiv, for whose main team he played 274 matches in various tournaments, scoring 13 goals and 27 assists. As part of the club, the footballer won the Russian Cup three times (2017, 2019, 2021) and the championship once (2018) and the national Super Cup (2019).

Barinov played 23 games for the Russian national team, recording two assists. Together with the national team, he participated in the final part of the European Championship, which took place in the summer of 2021. In that tournament, the Russian team won one match out of three and could not leave the group.
