Safonov’s transition to PSG is justified, Koloskov believes
Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov said that the transfer of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to PSG is justified.
On Sunday, PSG defeated Lens on penalties in an away match in the French Cup. Regular time ended with the score 1:1; in the series of 11-meter kicks, the PSG players were more accurate – 4:3. Safonov saved two shots in the penalty shootout.
— Today, Safonov’s move to PSG is justified. Even when Donnarumma was healthy, Matvey still received playing practice. As soon as the Italian was injured, Safonov immediately became number one. He performs and plays consistently, which he confirmed in the Cup match. Therefore, of course, his move to PSG is justified. And I am sure that he will improve there.
Will Safonov be able to become the permanent number one at PSG? It’s difficult for us to say anything here. To talk about this, you need to know how people train. In fact, Matvey was hired to replace him. That was the point. This means he has abilities. Whether this will work out in practice or not, we’ll see,” Legalbet quotes Koloskov as saying.
Safonov is 25 years old; in the summer he moved to the Parisian team from Krasnodar. In total, he has eight matches for PSG.
