Goalkeeper Evgeniy Latyshonok said on Match TV that he had not thought about the offer from St. Petersburg Zenit for a long time.
Latyshonok moved from Baltika Kaliningrad to Zenit in the summer of 2024. He played 16 matches for the team, keeping the goal intact in 10 of them.
— Why did you decide to move to Zenit?
— Zenit is the national champion. As a child, you watch European Cup games, and Zenit always plays in these tournaments, it has the best players. I can’t imagine how anyone could refuse to go to Zenit. It was an immediately significant match for the Super Cup. But there was no super jitters. It was like going out to another game.
— When you held the Super Cup in your hands, did you really feel that you were on a team that was constantly fighting for trophies?
— On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, it was a little strange feeling. Yes, we took the trophy, but the main work to play in this match was done by the team last season without me. But, of course, winning is always nice anyway.
I liked that they immediately entrusted me with such an important game. The trust of the coaching staff is important to me. This gave me strength and confidence. I think it’s a good start,” Latyshonok told Match TV.
Zenit is in second place in the RPL standings with 39 points.
