Belarus is interested in holding a joint football championship with Russia, but you need to discuss with UEFA – Minister of Sports of the country

The Minister of Sports and Tourism of Belarus Sergei Kovalchuk on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMEF) told Match TV that Belarus is interested in holding a joint football championship with Russia, but the issue must be discussed with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

– There was an idea to organize the united championship of Russia and Belarus. Is this possible today?

– We talked to this with (Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and the president of the Russian Olympic Committee) Mikhail Vladimirovich (Degtyarev), I know that such conversations are going on at the level of football federations. But we came to the conclusion that a third party is needed, we, Belarus and Russia, must discuss this together with UEFA. We are interested in this, there is an example of the KHL, where the Dynamo Minsk plays, where there is a stir, the stands are filled with every match. We play with strong rivals, grow next to you, because Russia is a great hockey power, the leader of the world hockey.

– Is it possible to hold a football tournament with the participation of champions and owners of the Cups of Belarus and Russia? There will be four teams, for example, in winter, in the summer?
