UEFA will not remove Israeli teams from participating in international tournaments – the media
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will not remove Israeli teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments after the organization’s management has exerted pressure, ISRAEL HAYOM reports.
According to the source, the assistance of the Israeli football association was provided by American officials, many diplomats, association leaders and football figures whose names are not called. At the moment, the issue of the exclusion of Israeli teams from participating in tournaments is not on the agenda, the publication claims.
The Israeli media previously reported that UEFA will consider the issue of excluding Israeli teams from tournaments under the auspices of the organization on September 23.
Earlier, the commission, established by the UN Council for Human Rights, published a report in which the conclusions were drawn that Israel from October 7, 2023 “committed acts of genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
The media reported that eight UN experts, including Palestine speaker Francescu Albanese, called on UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA) to remove the Israeli national team from international competitions “in response to the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territory”.
Russian clubs and teams have been removed from participation in competitions under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA since 2022.
