Midfielder Dmitry Vasiliev, who belongs to Zenit and plays for Sochi on loan, told Match TV that his team was determined to score points in the game with the blue-white-blues.
On Sunday, Sochi lost to Zenit at home in the match of the 12th round of the MIR RPL with a score of 0:3. Igor Osinkin’s team takes last place in the standings.
The loan of 21-year-old Vasilyev is valid until the end of the 2025/26 season. He is a graduate of the St. Petersburg club, played 25 matches for the Zenit main team and scored two goals. The footballer also played for Orenburg.
— In the second half, when you entered the field, Sochi improved. Do you agree?
– It’s good that you think so. I was on the field, I couldn’t see it. Perhaps the second half was actually a little more lively. But in the second half they lost more than the first – 0:2 versus 0:1. I see a paradox in this. Moreover, we received two stupid penalties. Although if you had forgotten about some difficult moment, the game probably could have turned out differently.
— How are you settling into Sochi?
– I’ve already gotten used to it. There is a good team here, a good coach. Everything is explained to us, the requirements are clear.
— After the victory in the previous round, did the mood in the team improve?
– Certainly! We won our first victory. We also prepared for the game with Zenit as if it were a battle. We really wanted to score points in it too. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. We will try to do this in the next games and get out of last place,” Vasiliev told Match TV.
Zenit extended its unbeaten streak in the RPL to eight matches and is fourth in the standings with 23 points. Sergei Semak’s team will host Dynamo Moscow in the next round on October 26.
