“I felt confident and understood what was required of me” – Safonov about the first match of the season
PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov said that he enjoyed the game and felt confident in his abilities in the first match for the team of the season.
The Paris team on Saturday defeated Rennes at home in the match of the 15th round of the French championship – 5:0. Safonov played for PSG for the first time in the 2025/26 season.
— As I said yesterday, I finally made my debut this season for PSG. I’m very glad that I managed to start with a big victory. But the most important thing is not even the score. The main thing is that I again had great fun playing the game. I think that’s what I missed last season: just enjoying the game.
Looking back at last night, I understand that I did not have a single drop of doubt – neither in my actions nor in the actions of my partners. I felt confident and understood what was required of me and what I should do.
And at some point the day before, the thought occurred to me that it was very strange to worry about the game if you had been preparing and waiting for it for the last six months.
I would like to thank everyone again for the words of support. Now I am maximally charged with positive emotions, and now I want to return to the field again and again and will continue to do everything possible for this,” Safonov wrote in the Telegram channel.
PSG is in second place in the Ligue 1 standings, one point behind Rennes. Luis Enrique’s team will play away against Metz on December 13.
