Ex-Barcelona footballer Alves wants to acquire the Portuguese club and resume his sports career

Former Barcelona and Brazil national team defender Dani Alves plans to become the owner of the Portuguese football club Sao Joao de Ver and resume his sports career, ESPN reports.

According to the publication, Alves agreed on the final details of the purchase of Sao Joao de Ver, which plays in the third division of Portugal.

In addition, the 42-year-old football player wants to sign a six-month contract and become a player for the Portuguese club. Alves believes he needs 30 days to get into playing shape and take the field after a three-year break from his sports career.

Alves played for the Spanish Barcelona and Sevilla, the French PSG, the Italian Juventus, and the Brazilian Bahia and Sao Paulo. The last time the defender took to the field was on January 8, 2023, as part of the Mexican Pumas against Juarez in the first round match of the Mexican Championship (2:1).

The Brazilian is one of the most decorated football players in history, with 43 trophies to his name. He became a six-time champion of Spain, a two-time champion of France, a champion of Italy, won the Champions League three times, the UEFA Cup twice, and the UEFA Super Cup three times. As a member of the Brazilian national team, he won the Confederations Cup (2009, 2013) and the America’s Cup (2007, 2019) twice each, and also became an Olympic champion (2021).

In February 2024, Alves received 4.5 years in prison for sexual assault. In March 2025, the Supreme Court of Catalonia (TSJC) decided to acquit the former football player.

Bulykin named the position that Spartak needs to strengthen

Former Russian national football player Dmitry Bulykin expressed his opinion on how Spartak could strengthen during the winter window.

What kind of player does Spartak need in the winter transfer window? First of all, another goalscoring striker. They are already in a good position and can fight for the championship, but due to the atmosphere in the team there were disagreements.

Now we need a good coach who unites them with a single goal and task. If I were in Spartak, I would find another goalscoring striker in the winter and fight for the championship.

Amorim explains Casemiro’s surprise substitution against Newcastle

Mentor Manchester United Reuben Amorim he said he replaced the midfielder Casemiro during the 1–0 win over Newcastle United because he felt the Brazilian would “struggle” with the intensity of the second half.

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte formed United’s midfield duo in the absence of Bruno Fernandes, who missed the match with a hamstring injury, but Amorim replaced the Brazilian with Leni Yoro in the 61st minute.

After seeing his number on the substitution board, Casemiro pointed to himself and was disappointed with Amorim’s decision to replace him so early in the match.

Asked to explain Casemiro’s substitution, Amorim replied: “At that moment I didn’t want to shoot [Матеуса] Cunho because he is the only one who allows us to be creative and I put him in position number 10. Jack [Флетчер] it was fresh and could continue, Manu [Угарте] he was cooler than Casemiro. In the end we decided to replace him because they were making a lot of quick passes and I felt that at that point he would have difficulty.”
