Tightening the limit on foreign players in Russian football is supported by 36% of Russians. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the Public Opinion Foundation, conducted from December 11 to 14 among 1.5 thousand Russians.
According to the survey, 36% of Russians believe that the allowed number of foreign players in a football team’s match requests (13 out of 25) is too high, or are convinced that there should be no foreigners in the Russian championship at all. 35% of those interviewed are indifferent to the issue of the limit, 29% do not consider it necessary to tighten the limit.
According to the survey, the majority of Russians (57%) consider the excess of the average salary of foreign players compared to Russian ones to be unfair, only 18% agree that such a difference exists.
Russian Ministry of Sports proposes to tighten limit for foreign players in the world – Russian Premier League (RPL) by 2028 according to the “10 foreigners in the application, 5 in the field” scheme. According to the current limit, clubs RPL can include 13 foreign players in the application and release 8 foreign players on the field.
