Gusev: “Under Gazzaev I succeeded as a football player, and now he helps me as a coach at Dynamo”
The new head coach of Dynamo Moscow, Rolan Gusev, spoke about how he will interact in his new position with Valery Gazzaev, who previously headed the club.
Previously, the Moscow club approved Gusev as head coach until the end of the 2025/26 season. He has been working on the Blue and White coaching staff since 2023. Gusev was Dynamo’s acting head coach at the end of last season, and also since mid-November, when Valery Karpin left the team.
Gazzaev headed Dynamo in 1991–1993, as well as in 1999–2001.
— We talked with Valery Gazzaev, and he told us that he would help you. True, he did not reveal his cards as to how this would happen.
– We are in touch with Valery Georgievich, he always gives me some advice, recommendations, we are constantly in contact with him – both by phone, and we meet, we communicate. His advice and help are very valuable. I developed as a football player under him, and now he helps me as a coach. I’ll tell you that even now he keeps up with the times, he follows, analyzes, looks very carefully, so it’s very interesting for me to always communicate with him, listen to his ideas.
— We asked Valery Georgievich (Karpin) whether it was realistic to win the Russian Cup, which Dynamo was aiming for. He says: “Quite realistic.” And Stepashin, by the way, also thinks so.
– Everyone thinks so – both the players and me. It cannot be any other way.
— Gazzaev said: it is very important now to go through winter training correctly. When do they start for you?
– January 13. We will have all three training camps in the Emirates. Of course, I understand that one of the key moments is the training camp, where the physical foundation is always laid and some kind of game connections and team interaction are developed. Well, we will discuss within the team how we will act in certain games, how we will prepare,” Gusev said on Radio KP.
Dynamo is in 10th place in the Russian Championship standings with 21 points. Gusev’s team will host Krylia Sovetov Samara in the first match after the winter break on March 1.
