Catalan Barcelona intends to obtain permission from local authorities to open the north stand at the Camp Nou, Mundo Deportivo reports.
According to the publication, the Catalan club has submitted all the necessary documents to the city council to obtain a 1 °C license, which will increase the current capacity of the stadium from 45,000 to 62,000 spectators. The license will allow the upper and lower tier of the northern stand to be opened to the public.
Barcelona does not want to set specific dates at the moment, since everything depends on the city council. But it is expected that the decision will be made before the home match of the 21st round of the Spanish championship of the Catalan club with Real Oviedo, which is scheduled for January 25.
The Camp Nou has been under renovation since 2023. For the first time after construction work, Barcelona returned to their home arena on November 22 in the match of the 13th round of the Spanish Championship against Athletic Bilbao.
After 18 rounds of La Liga, Barcelona leads the La Liga standings (46 points), second place Real Madrid is four points behind.
