Dyukov: “I had no influence on Karpin’s decision to leave Dynamo and focus on the national team”
The President of the Russian Football Union, Alexander Dyukov, said that the head coach of the Russian national team, Valery Karpin, independently decided to leave Dynamo Moscow; the RFU did not put pressure on the specialist.
Before the start of the season, Karpin was appointed head coach of Dynamo; in November he left his post at the club.
— Valery Georgievich Karpin focused on working in the national team. Can we say that the results of Dynamo and the national team’s recent matches led to this? What is your position based on the results of the last two matches of the national team?
— It was Valery Georgievich’s decision. There was no influence on my part on him. At the same time, I don’t see a connection between Valery Georgievich’s decision and the results of the team’s last two matches.
The team performed well in the September and October matches. In the game against the Peruvian national team in St. Petersburg, we could well have won. As for the match with Chile in Sochi, I can’t say that the team looked worse than the opponent, but, of course, they didn’t play enough to win.
Overall, I would rate the season that the team spent as eventful and successful. Firstly, we managed to use all FIFA windows – we played 10 matches out of 10 possible. This assessment is relevant for all our teams: everyone played and played a lot, more than 160 matches of all football teams were played this season. This is very important for the development of players, especially young ones.
The national men’s team looked very decent in most games, demonstrating high-quality football. There were beautiful, convincing victories. Maybe the opponents were not top teams, but they were strong teams. It is important that young football players made their debut for the national team – and not only made their debut, but also proved themselves and established themselves in the squad.
There is high interest from spectators and fans in the national team’s matches. On average, almost 31 thousand people were present at each match, there were high television ratings and viewing shares,” a Match TV correspondent reports Dyukov’s words.
