The Sudanese national team goalkeeper lost consciousness during the African Cup match due to a drop in blood pressure – media
Details have become known of the incident involving Sudanese national team goalkeeper Elnil Abouzaid Monged, who suffered a brief fainting spell during a match at the African Cup of Nations.
Mongued, 29, collapsed during Sunday’s Group E game against Equatorial Guinea in Casablanca. In the first half, the football player fell on the field near the line of his own penalty area and lay motionless. The medical team provided him with first aid. Monged regained consciousness and after a medical examination continued the match and played to zero. Sudan won with a score of 1:0.
According to doctors on the Sudan team’s medical team, the cause of fainting was a short-term drop in blood pressure or glucose levels. The football player has not been diagnosed with any serious illnesses; Monged can continue playing at the tournament, BeSoccer reports.
The Sudan team (3 points) takes third place in Group E. Algeria is first (6), followed by Burkina Faso (3), and Equatorial Guinea (0) in last place.
On December 31, the Sudanese will play against Burkina Faso in the final third round of the group stage.
