Grishin: “I think that Xabi Alonso himself made the decision to leave Real Madrid”
Former CSKA football player Alexander Grishin suggested on Match TV that Xabi Alonso himself decided to leave the post of head coach of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid announced Alonso’s departure on Monday. The agreement with the 44-year-old Spanish specialist was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties. Alonso was replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa.
— In modern football, the role of a coach is devalued. Club presidents focus on star players such as Mbappe and Vinicius at Real Madrid. In our time, Vinicius and Mbappe would go home, and the Real Madrid coaching staff would take young players in their place, but in our time there were no such big football contracts.
I think Xabi Alonso himself was relieved after this dismissal because he was under pressure before every match. Either he is fired, or not, and so on every time. It has long been known that Alonso missed out on the dressing room at Real Madrid, although he remains a super-class coach. I think he should have stayed in Germany, where everyone appreciated him. But it is clear that it is difficult to refuse Real Madrid. I wanted the best, but it turned out worse.
My opinion: Alonso left on his own. “He understood the situation and made a decision after the defeat in the Spanish Super Cup,” Grishin said on the air of the “Everyone for the Match!” program. on Match TV.
Alonso took charge of Real Madrid ahead of the current season. Before the Madrid club, the Spaniard coached Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he became the German champion, winner of the country’s Cup and Super Cup.
On Sunday, Real Madrid lost to Barcelona 2-3 in the Spanish Super Cup final.
