On Monday, Real Madrid announced Alonso’s resignation as head coach of the club. The agreement with the 44-year-old specialist was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties. The Spaniard was replaced in the position by his compatriot Alvaro Arbeloa. On Sunday, Real Madrid lost to Barcelona 2-3 in the Spanish Super Cup final.
