“They said I was ugly.” Onopko said that he was not taken to Barcelona because of his appearance
Former defender of the Russian national football team Viktor Onopko said that he could have ended up in Barcelona, but did not get into the Catalan club because of his appearance.
In Spain, Victor Onopko played for Real Oviedo and Rayo Vallecano.
“I recently found out that Barcelona wanted to sign me. But Cruyff or one of his assistants said that I was ugly, and that’s why they didn’t sign me,” Mundo Deportivo quoted Onopko as saying, citing the El Bigote de Abadia podcast.
After finishing his career, Onopko switched to coaching; he is part of the coaching staff of Rostov and the Russian national team.
