The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, announced that Monday, January 19, 2026, will be a paid day off throughout the country, journalist Stanis Tshiamala reports, citing the broadcast of the RTS 1 television channel.

In the final, the Senegal team beat the Moroccan team with a score of 1:0 in extra time.

At the 90+8th minute the referee awarded a penalty against the Senegal team. After this, most of the Senegalese players left the field, but then returned after the persuasion of the team’s forward Sadio Mane. In the 90+24th minute, Moroccan national team midfielder Brahim Diaz kicked a penalty kick in the center of the goal – goalkeeper Edouard Mendy caught the ball.

In extra time, Senegal won. In the 94th minute, midfielder Pape Gueye scored a goal.

The team won the African Cup for the second time in history. Four years ago, they beat the Egyptian team in a penalty shootout (0:0, 4:2 in a penalty shootout). Then the current president of the country also declared a day off due to the success of the national team.
