Rostov coach Onopko on the first part of the season: “We performed well, but I would like to do better”

Rostov coach Viktor Onopko told Match TV that the team performed well in the first part of the season, improving with each match.

“Rostov” after 18 rounds ranks 11th in the MIR RPL standings, gaining 21 points.

— We performed well, but I would like to do better. We were on the rise. At the beginning of the season we didn’t have many points – we would have liked more. But with every game we progressed. In the summer, the core of the players left. You cannot shape it artificially. Only the team creates it; the coach cannot help with this. It pushes out leaders, some guys who unite. This took time. As for me, this takes six months. At the beginning of the season we played well against Zenit, but unfortunately we lost. In the next match the situation repeated itself. We changed something, and the points started coming,” Onopko said on Match TV.

In the first match after the winter break, Rostov will play on February 28 away against Krasnodar.
