Forward Mateo Cassierra, who moved from Sochi to Zenit, called the past season the most successful in his football career.
On Thursday, the St. Petersburg club announced the transfer of the 25-year-old Colombian, with whom a contract was signed under the 3 + 1 scheme. Cassierra has been playing for Sochi since August last year. Last season, the 25-year-old played 23 matches in all competitions and scored 14 goals. Previously, the Colombian played for the Portuguese “Belenenses”, the Amsterdam “Ajax” and a number of other clubs.
– I thank the team, players and coaches for last year and for this one. For me this season was the best in my life. Thank you for feeling at home here from the first day, just like my family,” Cassierra said in a video interview published on the Sochi Telegram channel.
The football player also spoke about the course of negotiations and tasks for the upcoming season, noting that he consulted with Zenit midfielder Wilmar Barrios.
– I learned about the interest about a month ago, and every day this interest became stronger. I immediately decided that I wanted to go to Zenit – and here I am, insanely happy about it, like my whole family! I really want to start training with the team as soon as possible and show my best side. I had the opportunity to speak with Barrios. Wilmar is a first-class player who is making history at Zenit right now. I asked him a few questions, and after his words, it was even easier for me to decide to move.
It is logical that the main goal is to win Premier League gold medals with the club, as well as fight for titles and win in all tournaments. This is the most important task, because these are the traditions of Zenit. And when the opportunity to play in the Champions League again appears, I would really like to get there together with the Petersburgers, leave the group and, why not, get as close as possible to the match for the trophy, – said the forward, whose words are quoted by the Zenit website.
According to Cassierra, he does not have a plan for goals for next season, the player sets the goal of getting better every day.
– I hope my efforts will help me score a lot of goals in the Zenit T-shirt, – said the Colombian.
