The African Cup, which was supposed to be held in Ivory Coast in the summer of 2023, has been postponed to January-February 2024. This is due to climatic reasons. The President of the African Football Confederation spoke on this issue. Patrice Motsepe:
CAN will take place in January and February 2024. We don’t want to play games during the flood, it’s a big risk. This could negatively affect the image of African football. It is a matter of respect, many opinions have been expressed and some people believe that rain will not be a hindrance. But we decided not to risk it.
I am very proud of the world-class infrastructure, the support of the authorities and all actors in the Ivory Coast. This tournament is going to be special. We understand that January is not the best option. European clubs don’t always let their best players go.
