“Russian football players are not doing anything wrong, they should be allowed to play” – Adebayor

Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor, a former Arsenal football player, considers it unfair to exclude Russian clubs and national teams from international competitions.

This week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) began considering on the merits the claims of the Russian Football Union against the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA), in which the RFU demands to cancel the decision to ban the participation of Russian teams and teams in international tournaments under auspices of organizations.

“Of course it’s not fair. In this world, alas, much is dishonest. I feel sorry for the Russian team and Russian football players. But what can we do to somehow change the situation? Nothing. Obviously, it is necessary to allow the RFU and FIFA to conduct a dialogue. I think at some point you will be able to come up with a good solution that will free Russia from the ban. Russian players are not doing anything wrong and are not to blame for anything. They just want to do their job. They need to be allowed to play.

How long will it last? I don’t know, it’s FIFA. Now we just pray that what is happening quickly ends, and a world comes in which everyone can be happy and enjoy life, ”Sport24 quotes Adebayor.

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:

“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”

FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”

Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:

“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”

Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.
