The Russian Football Union (RFU) will not be excluded from the membership of the International Football Federation (FIFA), despite the desire of some countries, said the honorary head of the RFU Vyacheslav Koloskov.
Earlier, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended the Russian national teams from tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The RFU filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In early July, the CAS began considering the merits of the claims of the RFU.
– There is no threat of exclusion of the RFU from FIFA. The congress is attended by representatives of 211 national football associations. We were opposed by 35 countries. Even if a dozen more will be added, it will not change anything. There is no risk. The fact is that they want to exclude Russia again, guided by political motives. And the charter of the International Football Federation clearly states under what conditions a national federation can lose its membership. So the initiators of this provocation have no chance, – Koloskov told RT.
At the FIFA Congress, which took place on March 31 in Doha, the issue of the removal of the RFU was not considered.
