Midfielder Magomed Ozdoev said that he could leave Zenit and move to the Moscow club last summer, but did not reach an agreement with the leadership of the blue-white-blue.

Ozdoev decided not to renew the agreement with Zenit, which expired on June 30, and became a free agent.

“I wanted to leave once, last summer. There was even an agreement with the Moscow club. But the leadership of Zenit said that they would not let me go. Alexander Ivanovich (Medvedev) wanted me to stay,” Ozdoev said in an interview with Sport24.

He also noted that the financial issue is not a priority for him when choosing a new team.

— It all depends on the project and the tasks that the team sets for itself. The question of money is important, but it is not the main one. Zenit is a club that regularly played in the Champions League, won the RPL – the players had a chance to earn money. I earned them, but did not receive them. If I looked only at money, I would calmly pack my things and leave for warmer climes. I have offers with very good conditions from Arab clubs. But so far I don’t see myself there, ”said the midfielder.

Ozdoev has been playing for Zenit since 2018, as part of the St. Petersburg team he became a four-time champion of Russia and the owner of the Russian Cup. Last season, the 29-year-old scored 2 goals and made one assist in 16 games.
