Rodrigo called Zenit the grandee of Russian and world football

Zenit newcomer Rodrigo called the transition to the St. Petersburg club an important step in his career, noting that he quickly decided to become a blue-white-blue player.

On Thursday, Zenit announced the transfer of the defender from Sochi. The contract with the Brazilian was concluded according to the “3 + 1” scheme.

– I think this is a special moment in the career of every football player, this is a dream come true. I want to get to know my teammates as soon as possible and get to work, there are big goals and plans ahead. This is a very important step forward, which I have long wanted to take, it means a lot to me. I moved to a big club, the grand of Russian and world football. I hope that I will meet the highest standards of Zenit and be able to meet all expectations. When Zenit got in touch with me, I was very happy and immediately decided that I would do everything to speed up the transition process. After that, it was only necessary to settle all the formalities, which took some time, but now all this is over – and I am in St. Petersburg. I believe that both Brazilian and Russian football players will receive me very well. I’m looking forward to the first training session with the team,” Rodrigo told the club’s press service.

Earlier, Zenit was strengthened by another Sochi player, striker Mateo Cassierra.

– Of course, we phoned, and I asked him about everything. Mateo told a lot of good things – about the club’s infrastructure, about the cool professionals in the coaching staff and in the team’s locker room. He said that everything is at the highest level in Zenit. It was important for me to hear it from him,” said the Brazilian.

Rodrigo has been playing for Sochi since last summer. The football player has played 31 matches for the team in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Bulykin named the position that Spartak needs to strengthen

Former Russian national football player Dmitry Bulykin expressed his opinion on how Spartak could strengthen during the winter window.

What kind of player does Spartak need in the winter transfer window? First of all, another goalscoring striker. They are already in a good position and can fight for the championship, but due to the atmosphere in the team there were disagreements.

Now we need a good coach who unites them with a single goal and task. If I were in Spartak, I would find another goalscoring striker in the winter and fight for the championship.

Amorim explains Casemiro’s surprise substitution against Newcastle

Mentor Manchester United Reuben Amorim he said he replaced the midfielder Casemiro during the 1–0 win over Newcastle United because he felt the Brazilian would “struggle” with the intensity of the second half.

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte formed United’s midfield duo in the absence of Bruno Fernandes, who missed the match with a hamstring injury, but Amorim replaced the Brazilian with Leni Yoro in the 61st minute.

After seeing his number on the substitution board, Casemiro pointed to himself and was disappointed with Amorim’s decision to replace him so early in the match.

Asked to explain Casemiro’s substitution, Amorim replied: “At that moment I didn’t want to shoot [Матеуса] Cunho because he is the only one who allows us to be creative and I put him in position number 10. Jack [Флетчер] it was fresh and could continue, Manu [Угарте] he was cooler than Casemiro. In the end we decided to replace him because they were making a lot of quick passes and I felt that at that point he would have difficulty.”
