Sochi is already history, but such matches are in a special row” – CSKA coach Fedotov

CSKA head coach Vladimir Fedotov commented on the result of the PARI Premier Cup match against Sochi, saying that he would keep memories of working in the Sochi team for a lifetime.

The meeting took place in Moscow on Thursday and ended with the score 2:1 in favor of the army team.

“I think everyone enjoyed the match. Double-edged game, scored from a set piece, ran away. We saw that the opponent plays high. We could have scored more, the match was tense. There is also something to fix. A missed ball is the responsibility of the support zone. We are grateful to the 12th player, the colossal support drives the team forward. Football for our fans is life, which means we must “die” on the field.

– What is it like to play against a former team, a football family?

– Sochi is already history, but nonetheless. It’s unforgettable, you carry it with you for the rest of your life. There are good memories, people with whom I worked like family, and such matches, of course, are in a special row, ”Fedotov told reporters.

Sochi head coach Vadim Garanin noted that the match against the army team left him with “double feelings”.

– In the first half, they didn’t enter the game, why – I don’t want to fantasize. Second half – we saw the players we want to see. If this tournament did not exist, we would have planned the work differently, but it’s great that it was. We looked at the squad, felt the fans,” Garanin said.

He also appreciated the preparation of the team for the season and the removal of Russian clubs from European competition.

– Lack of European Cups – demotivation?

The guys are not happy, of course. But to say that the cast is being removed, the client is leaving… There are always goals, the club has ambitious leaders, coaches and players. We do not have goals to be lower than they were.

How ready is the team for the season?

For us, this is to some extent a question. We did some work, we look good in fragments, but we cannot say that this is already a coaching team ready for any tests. We want to dig deeper. Is there enough time? The team played well even before me, they did not shoot the ball into the stands. Strong players are gathered in Sochi, we are not shaking, it remains to instill certain game principles, in this sense I am an optimist, Garanin said.

Fedotov has headed Sochi since 2020, under his leadership the team took second place in the 2021/22 Russian Championship. In June, the specialist was appointed head coach of CSKA.
