Football match in Argentina ends in shootout, at least seven injured
The referee of the match “Lujan” – “Leandro”, which took place on Sunday as part of the 4th round of the Argentine Clausura in Example C (fourth division), interrupted the game in the 14th minute, when pyrotechnics were lit near the away team’s bench, according to Marca .
After that, passions near the stadium where the match was held flared up with renewed vigor. Fans of the teams began to sort things out with stones and sticks. A firefight was reported, in which at least seven people received gunshot wounds, one of the victims was in critical condition. Police tried to quell the clashes with rubber bullets and tear gas.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) said it “deeply regrets and condemns the acts of violence” that took place outside the Lujana stadium.
“We are in contact with government agencies, law enforcement agencies and the justice system to cooperate with the relevant investigation,” the AFA said in a statement, which is also going to conduct an internal investigation.
