French women’s soccer team goalkeeper Pauline Peyrot-Magnin suffered a personal tragedy in early July before the start of the European Championship, reports Le Parisien.
The ex-girlfriend of the 30-year-old football player Camille Nell was found dead in early July in a rented apartment in Turin. The exact circumstances of the death of 27-year-old Nell are unknown. Italian law enforcement officials said that “the investigation into the incident continues and remains secret.” The French Football Federation said it “will not comment on this episode, which relates to the player’s private life.”
Peiro-Magnin and Nell split in June after being in a close relationship for two years.
The European Championship in England is the first international tournament for the goalkeeper as a member of the national team. Peiro-Magnin defended the goal in two matches of the Euro group stage – with the Italians (5:1) and the Belgians (2:1).
