“I won’t play football anymore!” The goalkeeper left the field in tears due to insults from fans

The goalkeeper of the Egyptian club “Al-Ittihad” Ahmed Yehia decided to end his career after a major away defeat in the match of the 24th round of the national championship against the club “Keramika Cleopatra”, reports the publication Ahram Online.

The meeting took place on July 14 and ended in favor of the hosts with a score of 5:0. Yehia’s brother had died two days earlier, but he insisted on playing in the match, before which both teams honored the man’s memory with a moment of silence. However, after the fifth goal, Ahmed could not stand the insults from the fans of his team and, in tears, went towards the premises under the stands, saying: “I will not play football anymore!” Seeing the goalkeeper leaving the field, the referee stopped the game, and the coaches and substitutes began to calm the football player, who soon left for the locker room.

Yehia was subsequently awarded the Egyptian Premier League Player of the Week award. The next day, the goalkeeper released a statement announcing his retirement from football.

— Thanks to the Egyptian fans for their support. After the events of yesterday, I have decided to retire from football once and for all,” Yehia, 34, wrote.

The goalkeeper has been playing in the Egyptian top division since 2014.

It’s time to allow Russian football players to participate in international tournaments – Dzyuba

“In general, the Russians have been repatriated in almost half of the disciplines. It’s time to bring us back,” Dzyuba said. — I feel sadder for the kids, the current generation, the young players who have to compete with their European and world peers. And they suffer, they play with each other. With Belarus they go to Thailand and elsewhere.”

“This generation is missing out, I want them to play the Champions League, Europa League, qualifying matches, to feel what it’s like. Because it’s an unforgettable feeling when you play in the European arena,” Dzyuba added.

On 11 December the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (THAT IS) recommended that sports federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in youth competitions with the flag and anthem. At the same time, in the statement THAT IS It is underlined that the recommendations of March 28, 2023 on the participation of adult athletes from Russia and Belarus remain in force and will be revised if necessary.
