Former Spartak-2 coach Yevgeny Bushmanov told how, when he was a football player, he received a painful blow to the eye from Valery Karpin during the match.
– They played a tournament in America. I struggled with the striker at the top, and Valera, not seeing me, tried to carry the ball through him. Well, he kicked me in the eye. There was a lot of blood, sewn up, a black eye flowed. It’s okay, the game moment, – Bushmanov told the “Championship”.
He also noted that for Karpin even then there were no authorities.
– He stood out against the general background with arrogance, self-confidence. This character trait helped him then and helps now. Another such example is Dima Khlestov. He had no authority, because he was not interested in football at all outside of Spartak: he didn’t read anything, didn’t watch and didn’t know any players, Bushmanov said.
