CSKA prevents Fernandez from building a future. Did the Russian Brazilian deserve such an attitude?

Mario, under the guise of a pause in his career, wants to sign a contract with a Brazilian club. But Muscovites are strongly opposed.

We are used to hearing that CSKA is a family. The club staff, coaches, players supposedly live in perfect harmony, conflicts do not leak into the press, and the leadership of the army team takes care of their players as if they were their own children. Remember how long, for example, Alan Dzagoev was in the team, although with his injuries CSKA could have terminated the contract long ago.

In general, the topic of suspension of agreements in Russian football has come to the fore (thanks to the FIFA option), and in the same CSKA there are already many cases of such departures. Among those who left the club and his veteran Mario Fernandez, however, the Brazilian seems to have taken a break in his career with no intention of moving anywhere.

At least that’s what he promised the club. But what is really happening?

Fernandez intends to sign a contract with the club at home

Brazilian journalist Ademir Quintinho reported that Mario is close to signing a contract with Santos. It came as a complete surprise to army fans. It turns out that, under the pretext of family circumstances, Fernandez suspended the contract with CSKA, while he himself is secretly looking for a new team? Somehow it doesn’t look good.

On the other hand, the Brazilian can be understood. He is 31 years old, he gave the army team 10 years of his career, he played for the Russian national team. Plus, he performs in a very energy-consuming position. And Mario will have a baby soon, of course, the football player wants to be close to his family. However, the leadership of CSKA is not going to just let the veteran go to another club.

“Without the consent of CSKA, the transfer is impossible”

It is worth paying tribute to the new press service of CSKA, the club immediately reacted to the information that appeared. Previously, comments on such issues were very rare.

– Mario is not going to sign a contract with Santos, Atlético Paranaense or any other club. Literally just Roman Babaev and our specialist in international relations and a great friend of Mario Maxim Golovlev phoned him. And Mario personally denied all the rumors: no transfer is possible without the consent of CSKA. All our agreements, of course, are in force. It cannot be otherwise with Mario,” said CSKA communications director Kirill Breido.

Fernandez’s contract with Muscovites is valid until 2024. Earlier, CSKA head coach Vladimir Fedotov spoke about Mario’s departure. The specialist is sure that the Brazilian will still “dust” on the edge for the “red-blue”.

Fernandez is the history of CSKA. A young guy came here, spent his entire adult life here, received a Russian passport. This is a player dedicated to the club, the doors are always open for him, Mario knows about it. Did I have a dialogue with him? Secret. I think Mario has been wanting to come back for a long time, but he’s about to have a baby. As soon as he is born, the situation should change. I believe that Fernandez will still play for CSKA, – Fedotov is quoted by the “Championship”.

It is unlikely that the fans will scold Fernandez if he still remains to play at home. His contribution to the development of CSKA is huge, the language does not turn to reproach Mario for his choice. Well, if suddenly he decides to return to Moscow, then the fans will experience ecstasy. And Fedotov will stop puzzling over the choice of a player for the position of the right lateral.

Calls to remove Russia’s partners sound like desperation – Svishchev

Requests by Ukrainian officials to impose sanctions against Russia’s partners after the renewed admission of Russian athletes to competitions do not find understanding and seem like a gesture of desperation. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.

Former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andrei Shevchenko called for sanctions and the removal from participation in sports competitions of representatives of countries supporting Russia.

“These are already some gestures of desperation. Our athletes are increasingly allowed to participate in international competitions; there are no conflicts or boycotts. Athletes even communicate with each other, this does not bring negative consequences. The appeals of Ukrainians to remove our athletes from every part of the world no longer find understanding among appropriate sports officials. Therefore, such appeals already seem desperate,” Svishchev said.

Shevchenko made statements about the Ukraine-Sweden match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

UAF President Andrey Shevchenko He talked about the match against the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“When we were drawn against Sweden we probably faced our toughest opponent. I have great respect for Swedish football, you have always had good national teams and great players.”

“It’s always difficult to face Scandinavian teams, even though you don’t qualify for the World Cup, because you have so much quality, character and identity. This is similar to us to some extent. I don’t think there are favourites. In the end it all depends on the details, the injury situation and the preparations,” said Shevchenko.

In case of victory, Ukraine will play with the winner of the Poland-Albania doubles for a ticket to the World Cup. Ukraine will play the final match at home on March 31, again conditionally.

In addition to the 12 teams that finished second in their groups, the 4 winners of the Nations League quartet will also participate in the play-offs. All 16 participants are divided into 4 paths. Each route will include a semi-final and a final. The semi-finals will be held on March 26, and the finals will be held on March 31, 2026.
