The footballer’s club is no longer concerned about the problems, he is not going to finalize the contract. In FIFA, Varela will not be convicted – the player did everything according to the letter of the law.
FIFA legalized the robbery of Russian football, allowing legionnaires to leave wherever they please, contrary to the terms of the signed contract. Other players took advantage of the option immediately, while others promised to stay with the teams until the end.
So the Uruguayan Guillermo Varela just recently said that he would finish the season for Dynamo, and these words aroused respect among the fans. But when it came to the point, it turned out that the Uruguayan did not care about the plans of the “white-and-blue” ones. He arranged an escape right on the eve of the derby and did not inform anyone. It will be impossible to punish a South American for a vile act.
The player acted with the permission of FIFA.
“Quietly leaves Dynamo”
On Sunday, fans of Russian football in the second round of the Russian Premier League are waiting for a slightly forgotten metropolitan derby – Dynamo against Torpedo. The White-and-Blues, having lost points in the first round, are ready to make every effort to get their first win of the season. True, not all Dynamo players are ready for a fundamental confrontation. Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela on the eve of the match hastily left the club base, and Russia, apparently, too.
Here again, we can recall what kind of pig the International Football Federation (FIFA) planted on Russian football, which allowed foreigners to suspend contracts with Premier League clubs. The defender of the national team of Uruguay decided to use this option. But it’s one thing to take advantage of the chance given by generous FIFA officials in advance, and another to rush off shortly before the match.
Guillermo did not warn anyone in advance, on the contrary, together with his agent, he confused the public, assuring that he did not plan to go anywhere. In May, a representative of the South American football player said that Varela would remain at Dynamo, noting that the club had always treated the player well. At the beginning of the week, the Uruguayan personally expressed his readiness to play the whole season in the team.
However, last night the South American secretly left the Dynamo base. According to Match TV, the athlete is no longer in Russia either. The problems of the coaching staff, who lost a base player before an important match, did not particularly bother him. The problems of the club, which is already forced to reshape the entire line of defense, too.
– FIFA rules allow foreign players and coaches to leave the club at any time. The player may not tell anyone about his decision to leave, but, conditionally, five minutes before the start of the match, write an e-mail to the club and tell them not to wait for him anymore. He calmly leaves Dynamo, he doesn’t think that he will have to “look the guys in the eyes” in a year,” sports lawyer Mikhail Prokopets explained to Match TV.
No insurance against betrayal
Where the unreliable football player will continue his career is not very difficult to guess. Recently, in the Russian and foreign press, information was actively exaggerated about the interest in the player from the Brazilian Flamengo. This club is probably passionate about how you want to get hold of free personnel from the Russian league. After an unsuccessful attempt to steal midfielder Wendel from Zenit, the vice-champion of Brazil decided to strike at Dynamo.
The leadership of the “white-blue” suspected about the unscrupulous intentions of Flamengo. The day before, Varela received an offer for a new contract – the current one expired in 2023. Apparently, the proposed conditions did not seem very interesting to the 29-year-old Uruguayan. At least the new version of the contract did not stop him from escaping.
The disappearance of Varela was, of course, an unpleasant surprise for Dynamo. However, the situation also applies to the competitors of the “white-blue”. The example shown by the Uruguayan can inspire other legionnaires to similar actions. From the point of view of FIFA, nothing terrible has happened – everything is according to the letter of the law. Therefore, when negotiating contracts with foreigners, our clubs must understand that no one is immune from betrayal at the most inopportune moment.
