Former head coach of Lokomotiv Moscow Yuri Semin, commenting on the information about the departure of defender Guillermo Varela from Dynamo, called on the heads of Russian clubs to focus on domestic young players.

On July 24, Match TV reported that Varela left the Dynamo location and flew away from Russia. The contract of the 29-year-old Uruguayan with Dynamo is valid until the summer of 2023. In their statement, Muscovites noted that they consider the player’s actions as a violation of contractual obligations. Member of the board of directors Dmitry Gafin noted that in this situation they “cannot respond to blackmail” from the player.

“I don’t want to judge Varela’s act. Probably, our leaders, who are engaged in inviting legionnaires, need to draw the right conclusions. They will offer some better conditions to legionnaires, and they will leave anyway. The emphasis should be placed on our players, the development of our youth football infrastructure. Our stars will appear from here,” Semin said to the “Championship”.

Varela played in the first round of the WORLD RPL season 2022/23, spending all 90 minutes on the field.
