Former goalkeeper of Spartak and the USSR national team Rinat Dasaev reacted to the initiative of the Russian State Duma deputy Roman Teryushkov to abandon foreign players in Russian football.

On the air of the program “There is a theme!” on the Match TV channel, the deputy said that Russia needs to consider the issue of a complete rejection of legionnaires in domestic football.

– Now such a situation in which we must trust our players. Let the Russian youth play. It will be a difficult time: for a year or two we will face problems, but after that time a generation of new, and most importantly, our players will appear. Let the clubs give them a chance to prove themselves.

Should we completely abandon legionnaires? It is difficult to say, because now the situation is complex and ambiguous. I think that there should be a certain limit on legionnaires: two or three foreigners. We can buy good legionnaires, and not such mediocrities that we play now, – Sport24 quotes Dasaev.

In March, the RFU executive committee approved a new limit on legionnaires, which will take effect from the 2022/23 season. From the new season, each RPL club will be able to register up to 13 foreign players, and no more than eight foreign players will be able to enter the field at the same time.

Previously, the RPL had the “8 + 17” format, in which the team’s application for the season could not have more than eight legionnaires.
