Croatian footballer involved in 2018 World Cup controversy joins AEK
Croatian defender Domagoj Vida has joined AEK Athens, according to the team’s official website.
The 33-year-old football player moved to the Greek club on a free transfer and signed a two-year contract.
Since January 2018, Vida has been playing for Besiktas. Last season he took part in 31 matches for the Turkish club and scored 1 goal.
At the 2018 World Cup, after the victory of the Croatian team in the quarterfinals over the Russian team (2:2, 4:3 – on penalties), Vida recorded a joint video with Ognjen Vukoevich, in which he dedicated the victory over the Russian team to Ukraine. The International Football Federation (FIFA) issued a warning to Vida, but did not take any other action.
