Semak: “Spartak is my respected and longtime opponent, but not an enemy”

Zenith head coach Sergey Semak spoke about his attitude towards Spartak.

Spartak are the main rival of Zenit and our fans. Well, for me personally, it turns out that it is doubly important, because I have spoken too CSKA.

I emphasize: my respected and longtime adversary, but not an enemy. They are completely different things! Fighting on the pitch is one thing, but off-screen communication is another. And I liked that on the eve of the Super Cup, good old Petrovsky hosted a meeting of veterans and legends of the two teams, this is a good initiative!

I am happy that I had a chance to hug and talk a little with Oleg Ivanovich Romantsev, whom I respect very much as a specialist and person. I have good relations with many former Spartak players and, of course, I join those who mourn the death of Georgy Yartsev: he just sat on the edge of the Petrovsky field with Romantsev …

If we talk about our unbeaten match against Spartak, then it’s nice, but nothing more. Each game is a different story. And the next meeting is a new chapter.

Calls to remove Russia’s partners sound like desperation – Svishchev

Requests by Ukrainian officials to impose sanctions against Russia’s partners after the renewed admission of Russian athletes to competitions do not find understanding and seem like a gesture of desperation. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.

Former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andrei Shevchenko called for sanctions and the removal from participation in sports competitions of representatives of countries supporting Russia.

“These are already some gestures of desperation. Our athletes are increasingly allowed to participate in international competitions; there are no conflicts or boycotts. Athletes even communicate with each other, this does not bring negative consequences. The appeals of Ukrainians to remove our athletes from every part of the world no longer find understanding among appropriate sports officials. Therefore, such appeals already seem desperate,” Svishchev said.

Shevchenko made statements about the Ukraine-Sweden match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

UAF President Andrey Shevchenko He talked about the match against the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“When we were drawn against Sweden we probably faced our toughest opponent. I have great respect for Swedish football, you have always had good national teams and great players.”

“It’s always difficult to face Scandinavian teams, even though you don’t qualify for the World Cup, because you have so much quality, character and identity. This is similar to us to some extent. I don’t think there are favourites. In the end it all depends on the details, the injury situation and the preparations,” said Shevchenko.

In case of victory, Ukraine will play with the winner of the Poland-Albania doubles for a ticket to the World Cup. Ukraine will play the final match at home on March 31, again conditionally.

In addition to the 12 teams that finished second in their groups, the 4 winners of the Nations League quartet will also participate in the play-offs. All 16 participants are divided into 4 paths. Each route will include a semi-final and a final. The semi-finals will be held on March 26, and the finals will be held on March 31, 2026.
