President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev spoke about the technical aspect in the development of refereeing at football matches, proposing to introduce the provision of negotiations on VAR to the audience.
On Tuesday, Alaev was elected the new president of the RPL for a five-year term, he was the only candidate in the elections.
– Refereeing is a topic that will always be discussed. I will explain separately about the VAR system: over the past years, we have been working with the supplier Hawk‑Eye, but due to recent events, this company has suspended cooperation with us. Our colleagues did not hear our requests to provide alternatives – they simply collected equipment and personnel. Therefore, it was necessary to find another alternative in a short time. As a result, by the beginning of the season, the system worked with great difficulty. Many thanks to our colleagues that we entered the new season with VAR at all, about offside lines – that’s another question. Now we are looking for new suppliers, including Chinese companies.
I consider refereeing a controlled situation. I would like more openness, we need to discuss this option with our colleagues from the RFU. We can consider the option of quickly providing viewers with talks on VAR, we can all think about this together. And it is also important that the judges raise the level of their work every day,” Alaev told reporters.
