Former head coach of Lokomotiv Yuri Semin reacted positively to the election of Alexander Alaev as president of the Russian Premier League (RPL), calling him a football man.
On August 16, Alaev was unanimously elected head of the RPL during a general meeting of league clubs.
“My attitude is the most positive, because he is a football person,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Semin as saying. – He has been in this organizational structure for a long time. Moreover, he was unanimously elected after the independent departure of Ashot Khachaturyants. Although one must give Khachaturyants his due, he did a lot of good things. Alaev likes his work. Interesting job. It remains only to wish him good luck.
– Doesn’t it bother you that the elections were uncontested?
– There is no embarrassment. Probably everyone was sure of him. And there was no other person who was confident in himself, that he could win. It’s also a normal situation.
– What first steps do you expect from Alaev in his post?
– Always in such cases, from the first steps, you expect our football to develop. So that the league develops along with the RFU. Or maybe, on the contrary, the league will give a new impetus to move on. Alaev has great opportunities now.
Alaev has served as acting president of the RPL since the end of June after Ashot Khachaturyants resigned.
